The first ever solo run to cross the Sahara.

Hi I'm Kevin Carr. In November 2009 I'm running a pretty similair run to this.

Although by crossing the Sahara North-South technically means i'm taking 'the easy' route, the route is completely piste/road free and the attempt is both Solo and unsupported, I can't wait, 6 weeks running into, across and then out of the desert - all under the stars, it's going to be incredible, if your'e interested in following the run;

look up runningthesaharasolo: www.runningthesaharasolo.com

The run takes the format of 26 miles (1 marathon) a day for 40 days straight, so details of the run can be found at 26x40:
www.26x40.com

The run Engle, Zahab and Lin achieved really does push the boundaries of what we imagine to be possible, an incredible feat of endurance and showcase of the power of focus and determination.

Raising awareness of the need for clean drinking water across Africa/the world is very important.

Wow, the marathon des Sables sounds like the ultimate ultra event.

I understand your thoughts on the marathon. Why do you think I'm training for Boston? It's such a challenge to come so close and miss your goal.

If I hadn't started out running marathons, I might be more inclined to do 1/2 ironman and ironman. I just know how hard a marathon is and to tack on all the other events is tough for my runner mindset.

Too bad you have to bring your own gear and do your own cooking. Are you thinking you'll do this someday?

Nope, this isn't amazing . . . it's just beyond insane. But that doesn't mean I don't admire them!

I've been wondering about something similar (but on a MUCH smaller scale) for the last year . . . the Marathon des Sables. This is a 151 mile race through the Sahara, in which the competitors also have to carry all of their provisions except a tent - food, sleeping bag, clothes, medical kit, etc. Water is rationed and handed out at each checkpoint. :-(

I really don't fancy the idea of a regular marathon - it's just too far, on tarmac, and once I'd done one . . . I just know I'd have to do another to improve on the time. But I figure I could treat this kind of ultra as a once in a lifetime thing. Just finishing it once would be enough. . . .
